Welcoming a new addition into your family is an incredible occasion. Your new baby celebrates the love you have with your significant other or it can help define your sense of self if you are a single parent. Both situations are to be embraced and cherished for these days are the happiest of your life.

How you choose to decorate your new infants space can aid in their development. Warm glowing colors are probably the best choice to surround your baby in comfort. Warm colors have a soothing note in them, both for children and the mother to be especially since she may be going through postpartum depression. Pastels are also high on the list for most new parents; blues, greens, yellows, all make for wonderful wall coloring and the backdrop for any other decorations that you decide to use.

The new bundle of joys room can be decorate how you see fit; with animals, fantasy themes, clowns, a starry night, plants, Disney characters, etc. There are so many wonderful options available to suit your taste.

Some parents choose to decorate easily, just so they do not have much to purchase or change in the decor once the infant starts to grow, which we will know they will do at an incredible rate. Beds are available, for example, that can convert from a crib, to a toddler bed.

Decorate your new infants room with anything your heart desires, the more love they feel the happier and healthier they will be.

Night with a New Baby

For many people who have new babies the thought of bringing the baby home for the first night is incredibly exciting. However, for inexperience parents that night can be rather brutal if you are not prepared. The best thing to do is try to get as much asleep beforehand as possible so that you can be sure you are awake enough for the child. The reason for this is that when you take care of a new baby the first night, the baby may need to be changed and fed multiple times, as well as taken care of after eating.

Having both of the parents at home the first night is also a wonderful thing to do because it helps them bond with the new born child. The baby may sometimes cry quite a bit the first night because it is in new surrounding, and scared, but this does not necessarily mean that anything is terribly wrong. The baby just needs to be proper covered up so it does not get cold, and the crib should be free of anything the child could harm itself on. Never leave the baby unattended if a blanket is in the sheet, as this could result in harm or entanglement.

All in all, the first night with your new baby will be remarkable. You will realize that the baby can recognize the voices of the mother and father, and that it will quickly adapt to the surrounding areas. A great thing to do is set up a spot in your own bedroom for the baby. This is far better then putting the baby in a separate room.

SIDS, otherwise known as crib death, stands for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, a condition in which a baby unexpectedly dies while sleeping. Every concerned parent has heard about SIDS. SIDS is a truly frightening conditioning that affects babies that appear to be perfectly healthy. Fortunately, crib death is an incredibly rare occurrence and parents can take steps to reduce their child’s risk.

Approximately, one in 2000 infants die from SIDS in the United States. Babies at highest risk have the following risk factors: born to teenage mothers, premature and / or low birth weight, live in a home with a smoker, maternal drug use during pregnancy and formula fed. Just because a child has one, some, or all of the above risk factors does not mean he will die of SIDS; it simply signifies that he has a higher risk.

Fortunately, there are safety precautions that parents can implement. In fact, since pediatricians began teaching safe sleeping techniques, SIDS rates have been cut in half. Here is a list of safety tips. First, always have your child sleep on her back. Even side sleeping increases SIDS risk. Second, place infants to sleep on a firm mattress. Third, keep your baby’s crib in the mom’s room until 6 months of age. Fourth, don’t place the baby to sleep in an adult bed or on a couch. Fifth, don’t cover the baby while she sleeps. Sixth, never expose your infant to second hand tobacco smoke. Seventh, keep your baby away from sick people and breastfeed.

Even the most well intentioned and prepared parent commits errors. Like in every other area of one’s life, it is best to learn from another person’s mistakes than to learn them yourself. Here is a list of some of the most common blunders of new moms and dads.

First, many parents take their children out in public settings too often during the first three months of life. Until a baby is three months old, he is very vulnerable to complications from simple infections and his body has not yet acquired full immunity to many vaccine preventable disease. This is especially important for infants that are formula fed.

Second, many mothers choose not to breastfeed. The more science learns about breastfeeding, the more apparent it becomes that children benefit greatly from a mom’s milk. It keeps them healthy, protects them from disease, and aids in their brain development. So if it is medically possible Moms should try to breastfeed for one year.

Third, having the baby sleep in the marital bed is a big mistake because it increases the risk of infant death and can lead to increased maternal fatigue.

Fourth, mothers not being treated for postpartum depression. Most women experience a mild form of postpartum depression called postpartum blues which typically lasts a couple of weeks and is relatively mild. Around 15 – 20% of women experience full blown postpartum depression which can cause a variety of problems for mom and baby. They should seek treatment right away. Fathers should understand and empathize with the mom’s of their babies. They deserve it.

Having a new baby is something that is known to be one of the best experiences in the world. Nothing beats the fact that you just had your baby and can now bring it home. However, the house does need to be set a certain way to keep the baby safe and sound.

One of the things to remember is to keep anything that could harm the baby away from the sleeping area in the crib. A newborn baby may cry at night and be scared, so having some type of soothing music on with pretty lights is a great idea.

Although the older children in the family may wish to hold the baby the first night, they should probably wait until a few days has passed. This not only gives the baby time to adapt to the parents, but to be comfortable where it is. Having a blanket or another covering item that can keep the baby warm while sleeping, but that cannot be entangled or cover the face of the baby, is a great idea. Also, the place where the baby is needs to not be able to be accessed by any cats or dogs. The reason for this is that these animals will be curious about the baby, and may want to play.

If you are going to have to sleep when the new baby is in the home, you may want to get a baby monitor. This is great if the baby has to be in another room, but also good so you can hear the baby.

If you’re a new mother, you may be fast discovering that there really is no such thing as a “typical” day with a new baby. And even if you’ve already had several children, you probably know that every baby is different, and each child will present you new challenges and adventures.

While there is a standard mix of comforting, feeding, diaper changing, cleaning and napping — especially in the beginning when it feels like this is all you do — the unpredictability is at what times of the day and night you’ll be doing each of these things, because your baby is the one who sets the schedule. Some babies will sleep for longer stretches of time than others, allowing you opportunity to pursue regular activities such as bathing yourself, cooking and eating, where as other babies may only sleep briefly before needing another diaper change or a feeding and burping.

You may find yourself multitasking quite a bit, which is just part of being a good mother. But even if you find your baby demands almost all of your attention, it’s important to surround yourself with a good, reliable support system and actually let them help you. It’s a natural instinct to want to provide your baby’s every need, but if you don’t take care of yourself, give yourself a break once in a while to recharge your batteries, you risk wearing yourself out to the point of not being able to be the best mommy you can be.

A newborn baby is one of the greatest joys a parent, or parents, can receive. This baby will grow up to be a loving toddler, teenager, and adult. The thing that you must always be sure to do when having a newborn baby is to get the proper items to take care of them.

Although some of these items may seem a bit trivial, they are very important. After all, a newborn baby cannot fend for itself, or tell us what is wrong, so we must be constantly aware of the surroundings. This is the ultimate joy of being a parent!

A car seat should always be one of the first things that you get, before the baby is born. The reason for this is that you will no doubt be traveling. The baby needs to be secure when you travel, no matter how short or long the distance. Babies that are not breast feeding also need bottles, as some parents use bottles instead. A baby will be using them as it ages anyway, so it is good to get them before the baby is born.

A crib is also essential so that the baby has a place it can sleep and be safe. Babies also have sharp fingernails and can harm themselves with them, so a tiny nail clipper is good. Other items that you must have are diapers, lap pads, breast pads for leaking, medicine for the baby in case of gas from milk, and swaddling cloth for burping and warmth.

The easiest way to organize your baby’s nursery is to make everything easily accessible. Have diapers, wipes, powder, lotions, diaper rash creams, etc. all within reach of the changing table. Have some clean t-shirts, clothes, socks in drawers or on shelves within an arms reach of the changing table. NEVER EVER leave your baby alone on the changing table.

Put all clothes in a dresser according to most used. T-shirts, pajamas, one piece clothing on top because you use those the most. Socks and feet warmers or slippers in the same drawer. Clothes for baby hanging up in the closet or in drawers under the t-shirts and pajamas. Also, have receiving blankets nearby and within easy reach. Burp rags or towels close too for quick clean up of little vomit or spit up that baby has. Bathing towels in the bathroom close to the tub and within reach so you don’t leave baby alone or turn your eyes away from your new bundle of joy.

Toys that are colorful and fun low to the floor so when you put baby on the floor they have something to look at. A fun blanket or play mat for baby to have “tummy time” and learn to reach for toys that are kept within a short distance.

The crib and a rocker should be close to each other for when you rock baby to sleep or feed them just before bed it will make for easier bedtime. A small lamp in the room on the dresser for low light to assist in changing during the night and reading to baby just before bedtime.

A person who has just realized they are going to have a baby is going to be very happy, but also have a great deal of things to prepare. A great thing to do for someone who is having a baby is to throw them a baby shower. The best thing about a baby shower is the fact that not only should it be a complete surprise to the mother, but it should be in a place that is their favorite, and a place that they feel comfortable. This is also a fun thing to get together with friends and plan out.

A great way to prepare for a baby shower is their to rent out an entire spot to go to with the people attending, or even rent out a favorite restaurant. A place that the other parents can bring children to play is a great idea, and it also keeps the kids occupied. This is also perfect because these types of spots usually serve food. Another fun thing to do is not only bring the presents for the mother, but presents for the children attending. This keeps them from feeling left out as they may not understand a baby shower, and what it is for.

Learning about the favorite colors, animals, scents, and anything else about the mother having the child is vital to this. Once those items are figured out it makes it the easiest thing to go out and buy items that coincide with her likes.

Bringing your new son or daughter home for the first time can be a bit nerve wracking depending on how prepared you are. Within the first few weeks things may seem a bit easy, but as the child grows, so does their curiosity and their want to get into things.

When you know the little bundle is on their way you will want to try and cover any sharp edges you have in your home. These edges can be located on table corners, where base boards meet, chairs, or around the bath tub, just to name a few. Make sure to cover any electrical sockets as well, as your baby may get the idea to stick something in the hole.

If you have any plants sitting on the floor, you want to elevate them as some can be poisonous if eaten. If you are unsure about the plants in your home, do a bit of research on the species and make the decision accordingly. Household cleaners and toiletries can also be hazardous, place all of these chemicals out of reach of any tiny fingers.

Pets can be another conundrum when you bring your baby home for the first time. You want to take the introductions slowly. Some pets adapt very well to the new person in the house, while others do not but any relationship can take time. A new baby is new for everyone, for the parents, the family and the furry creatures that make a house a home.
